How to get to Clay Kitchen Portugal

The region is situated between Lisbon and the Algarve and is served by Lisbon and Faro airports. You can get to the main locations of the Southwest by car, bus or train.

By plane

The region is served by Lisbon and Faro airports. However the transportation options and the accessibility from Lisbon are more flexible and comprehensive.

It is possible to fly to Lisbon and Faro from the major European capitals.

You will arrive at Funcheira station (from Lisbon), with Comboios de Portugal.

For train schedules and connections, please visit the official Comboios de Portugal (CP) website.

This is the most direct and economic way to reach Vila Nova de Milfontes. Rede Expressos operates comfortable buses with free wi-fi; the only drawback is that routes occasionally follow winding roads and the journey time can be 1-2 hours longer than by car.

For long-distance bus schedules and routes, check the Rede Expressos or FlixBus websites.

Accomodation

The area offers a variety of accommodation options, including hotels, guesthouses, apartments, and campsites.

However, when staying at Clay Kitchen Portugal, the closest and our recommended option is Três Marias, known for its peaceful setting and proximity to nature. As this is a popular region, booking in advance is strongly advised to secure your preferred stay.

Local transportation

While Vila Nova de Milfontes itself is compact and walkable, Clay Kitchen Portugal is set in a more rural natural area. Without a car, getting around and exploring the region can be difficult. We strongly recommend having your own vehicle to move freely between the coast, villages, and surrounding landscapes, as public transport options are limited.

Weather

The climate here is Mediterranean, characterized by mild winters and warm summers. In Winter, temperatures typically range from 8°C to 16°C (46°F to 61°F) during the day, with cooler evenings. Some days can be warmer. Rainfall is moderate, so it’s a good idea to pack layers, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes.

Currency and payment

The currency used in Portugal is the Euro (€). Most shops, restaurants, and hotels accept major credit cards, but it’s always handy to have some cash on hand, especially for smaller establishments and local markets.

Language

Portuguese is the official language, but many locals in tourist areas speak English, especially in hotels, restaurants and shops.

Emergency number

In case of emergencies, dial 112 for general assistance, including police, ambulance and fire services.
